About the Site’s Founder
The inspiration for this website came from its founder, Rhonda Bonecutter, who has worked with thousands of individuals who have experienced life-changing events due to injury, illness, or the effects of aging. She observed that the majority of these individuals and their families struggle to find the information and resources they need to be able to remain in their own homes. This website on Aging-in-Place and Universal & Accessible Design of homes is designed to bridge this gap and help people more easily achieve success in finding the right services and solutions for their needs.
Since the early age of 10, Rhonda has avidly worked to help keep people in their own homes. She started by doing odd jobs for senior neighbors, moved on to volunteering in local rehab clinics helping people regain their strength to return home after injuries and then further to creating special shoes to keep an aunt walking independently. In the mid-1990’s, her passion for helping people maintain their independence drove her to select Occupational Therapy (OT) as her career path. In 2010, she became the founder of Zero Barriers, a company specialized in Aging in Place solutions in the SF Bay Area.
In addition to her background as an OT, she is a Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS), Certified Environmental Access Consultant (CEAC) and active volunteer for Rebuilding Together. She is a speaker on accessible design at local hospitals and community centers in the Bay Area and travels the US and the world attending trade-shows to test the latest in accessible home equipment.
